HISTORY OF SEWA FOUNDATION GHANA

SEWA “SE EYE WOBA ANKA” was started in year 2005 by the current President Mr. Jones Owusu Yeboah at Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) FM 105.9 at Nsawam, a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

He used to host a radio programme where he used to interview people on how they made it to fame so as to encourage the youth never to give up in life.

This program was known as “Obra Mu Nsem” which literally translates as Life Stories.

Meanwhile, he also used to report cases of abused and missing children on his show and due to the passion, he had in helping the less endowed in society.

SEWA’s true inspiration began with a nine (9) year old girl Adwoa Ahiavor, who was raped by a mad man, the case was reported to Jones Owusu Yeboah due to his passion he had in helping abused victims on the radio.

He decided to help the girl make her case public so as to seek help from the wide listeners of Fawe FM but it did not end there, Mr. Yeboah also assisted the girl with a police extract and took the girl to the St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia in Eastern Region, where she received treatment.

He also collaborated with the hospital to bring a doctor from Germany to attend to the victim.

Later he moved to Great FM 91.3 in Achimota, Accra, and due to his love for children, he changed his program from interviewing famous people to intervening for abused children in Ghana.

He began moving from village to village investigating cases of child abuse and child trafficking.

At a point in his investigation, he posed as a laborer at Sapeiman a town in the Greater Accra Region for two (2) weeks just to rescue a trafficking victim in the area.
Due to his good works and his passion he had support from the Chief of the area.

After his investigation, he decided to expand his campaign so he registered an NGO to called “SE EYE WOBA ANKA”.which literally means if he or she were your child”

The name came from a saying of a woman known as Love Carr who was the best friend to Mr. Yeboah and she always used to ask the trafficker when they were caught “SE EYE WOBA ANKA If he/she were your child would you have done this to him/her?
Mr. Jones Owusu Yeboah has the vision to end human trafficking and child abuse in Ghana and he also realized that rescuing the children without educating their parents on the effects of child labor, he would not achieve any results.
Due to this fact, he decided to create an awareness team to educate the parents of the victims when he returns them. So he sold his car to fund the project.

He bought filming equipment, a laptop, and used clothes from the proceeds.

He also managed to get support from the used clothes sellers in Kantamanto in Accra, by setting up an office there where they donate used clothes from time to time to support this project.

From that time Jones Owusu Yeboah and his team of dedicated personnel have been able to bring child abuse and child trafficking to the lime light.

SEWA FOUNDATION “SE EYE WOBA ANKA” wishes to expand its operations by reaching out to more Ghanaians and Africa specifically the cities, communities in Ghana and Africa where trafficking is very common and the Ghana and the World at large where the traffickers go and buy their victims.
